Tenopedics: A Novel Surgical Space Expansion System for Arthroscopic Biceps Tenodesis

Project Description:
Biceps tendonitis is a condition where the upper biceps tendon is inflamed due to microtears generated by overuse. In severe cases, surgeons may choose to perform biceps tenodesis surgery, which can be performed arthroscopically (ABT) or through an open approach (OBT). Despite ABT’s benefits, including less pain and faster recovery, many surgeons still prefer OBT due to the relatively smaller size of the subdeltoid space compared to the tools used in ABT. Consequently, surgeons often invest significant time in adjusting tools, even resorting to smaller tools designed for other procedures, in an effort to enhance visualization and maneuverability within the surgical space. We propose a novel cannula to aid ABT by expanding the subdeltoid space, improving visibility and simplifying the procedure. Overall, the development and adoption of the expander cannula have the potential to transform the biceps tenodesis landscape by promoting the widespread adoption of ABT and improving patient care.
