A centralized graphical interface for neural electrophysiology data processing

Project Description:

High-density electrophysiology has resulted in an order of magnitude increase in the scale of neural electrophysiology data, making automated data processing a necessity. However, state-of-the-art neural data processing is complex and involves many separate software tools. These tools are often poorly documented, lack visualization, or do not implement standardized input/output interfaces. Together, these issues impede the reproducibility, transparency, and ease of use of neural data processing and analysis workflows. This can limit the users’ ability to interact with their data, catch errors made by automated tools, and ultimately make accurate findings. To solve these issues, we developed a modular GUI-based data processing pipeline that seeks to unify all stages of neural data processing. Our GUI includes interactive visualizations for different stages of data processing, standardized APIs that enable third parties to implement compatible data processing modules, and the ability to interact with data stored on a remote computer.
