Designing a Biodegradable Thin Film Drug Delivery Method for Use in Osteomyelitis Treatment
- Program: Materials Science and Engineering
- Course: EN.510.441 Nanomaterials Senior Design
Project Description:
This project aims to advance the engineering of polymer films for enhanced tunability in drug elution profiles, achieved through a combination of geometrical parameters and nanoparticle integration. By implementing a micro-channeled thin film manufacturing process, the study seeks to enhance the surface area for polymer degradation, thereby increasing drug elution rates. Integration of metal nanoparticles into the polymer matrix is expected to amplify the surface area by inducing micro/nano-scale lesions upon exposure to acidic bodily fluids, consequently enhancing the elution rate.
