Tracheoshield: Preventing Backwall Perforations for Tracheostomies
Program:
Center for Leadership Education
Project Description:
Our device blocks the needle used in tracheostomy procedures from penetrating the posterior wall and causing perforation of the esophagus. This prevents procedural complications and reduces the need for a bronchoscope for endotracheal visualization of needle placement, with the potential to reduce costs and speed up this critical procedure in the ICU.
