Vehicle Testing Asset (VTA)

Team: OCEAN21

Program:

Mechanical Engineering

Project Description:

The team at Oceaneering has been investigating a way of field testing with a fixed length tether instead of one that unspools for several kilometers in order to cut back on fiber optic cable costs. They employed an early stage prototype in the form of a boogie board with their onboard system that was pulled by the ROV during its surveys. The problem is that the boogie board vehicle test asset, VTA, also pulls back on the ROV and obstructs its motion. So the objective is to upgrade the VTA so that this influence is mitigated and the tether can remain slack during operational runtime
