Design and Optimization of Isopropyl Alcohol Production Using a Plug Flow Reactor
Team: Katharos Engineering LLC
Program:
Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering
Project Description:
Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) is used in medicine, industry, and science as a sanitizer, solvent, and reagent in various solutions and processes. Our group has been tasked to manufacture 100,000 tons of IPA per year that is 99 wt%. We determined the optimal process sequence, feed flow rates, thermodynamic models, and unit specifications that produced the IPA product at the correct specifications
