Sustainable Shoes: Utilizing Innovative Technology To Eliminate Chemical Adhesives
Team: ReSOLEution
Program:
Center for Leadership Education
Project Description:
Currently, specific parts of Under Armour™ shoes can be recycled, but those sustainable materials are difficult to separate from the non-recyclable parts of the shoe. Our team was challenged to develop a fully recyclable shoe, focused on improving the component assembly and disassembly of the shoes. We developed two mechanical attachment designs that eliminate the non-recyclable chemical adhesive in the center of the shoe by utilizing built-in zippers and rivets.
