Lost in the Sauce
Program:
Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering
Project Description:
We have designed a single-use condiment packet which is biodegradable. This packet consists of a paper/wood pulp sheet coated in a whey protein isolate based-gel, which adds favorable barrier properties to hold condiments long-term. It is shaped to mimic a juice box, improving manufacturability and performance while reducing overall waste. Initial prototypes have been designed and tested, while plans for further improvement and future scale-up have been considered.
