Energy Harvesting for Saturn Probe

Team: RIPS21

Program:

Mechanical Engineering

Project Description:

One of the challenges of space exploration is balancing “power vs. mass” or “capability vs. cost” since each kilogram of mass costs thousands of dollars. The RIPS21 team is investigating alternative power solutions that require less mass and lower volume than traditional power systems and is more effective for long-duration science missions. The team’s approach is to run High Altitude Balloon tests in Earth’s atmosphere along with wind tunnel experiments.
