Motor-Driven Assistive Brace for Humerus Fracture

Program:

Biomedical Engineering

Project Description:

Our brace aims to help individuals with the rehabilitation of upper-arm fractures. One of the most important factors in fracture recovery is fixation, or stabilizing the bone to enable proper healing. Thus, braces must ensure a tight fit, often determined by a rehabilitation professional, in order to avoid nonunion of the fracture. However, patients also report that traditional braces are uncomfortable and cumbersome to put on without assistance By utilizing a lightweight motor-driven system, our brace is able to enable a proper fit, while also allowing patients to maintain autonomy and comfort.
