Stolen Base Analysis with Game State and Pitch Metrics

Team: Stolen Base Analysis with Game State and Pitch Metrics

Program:

Computer Science

Project Description:

Although there is an abundant amount of Baseball data that exists and is available to the public, what happens on the basepaths between plays is often overlooked in stat keeping, and thus has limited analysis. This project began by obtaining data from multiple sources in order to have the information necessary to research the game within the game of Baseball, baserunning. Our research consists of determining which situations are more prone to allowing successful stolen bases, and of course the opposite, limiting them. With more data and combining our results to a holistic model, we will be able to determine how effectively we can predict the outcomes of a stolen base in some game environment.
