Fabrication of 2D Material Solar Cells Backed by Sentaurus TCAD
Program:
Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering
Project Description:
This research project focuses on designing new tandem solar cells based on nanostructure materials that can overcome traditional efficiency limits and enable inexpensive, flexible deployment of solar energy. A combination of Sentaurus TCAD and SCAPS 1D software is used to simulate lead sulfide colloidal quantum dot solar cell structure. The ultimate goal is to obtain a working tandem solar cell with functional 2D materials as the interlayers backed by simulation data. Here, simulation data is presented for a single junction solar cell with gold contacts. Current efforts are focused on simulations for single junction cells with more complicated 2D materials as contacts as a first step in working towards designing a full tandem cell. Additionally, initial experimental results on tandem cells with gold interlayers are presented.
