Plastic Monster: A Method for the Industrial Degradation of PET

Program:

Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering

Project Description:

A proposed market, method and product for converting traditional PET recycling plants into facilities that break down PET into its useful monomers, ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid. The product is a buffered solution containing two engineered hydrolases, PETase and MHETase, derived from the organism Ideonella sakaiensis.
