Mobiliary: Eliminating Repeat Procedures to Treat Biliary Strictures
Program:
Biomedical Engineering
Project Description:
Biliary strictures are narrowings of the bile duct which cause biliary obstruction and lead to numerous health complications. Strictures are currently treated with many repetitive procedures which cause time, cost, and pain burden on patients, excess labor for clinicians, and inefficiency for the hospital. The Mobiliary Sheath is a novel device that improves treatment of biliary strictures by eliminating the need for repeat procedures and increasing dilation procedure efficacy. With benchtop testing, we have demonstrated that our device does not impede bile drainage, is adjustable to different stricture locations, and is easily maneuvered through a biliary tree model. The Mobiliary Sheath has the potential to change stricture treatment for the better by improving dilation procedure effectiveness and reducing the burden of repeat procedures.
